Tabraiz Shamsi, a left-arm leg spinner who plays for South Africa at the International stage will now be a part of Rajasthan Royals. Shamsi is a replacement for Andrew Tye who will not be playing for the remaining season. Tabraiz Shamsi is world’s number 1 T20I bowler currently and has had some experience of playing in the IPL in the past. He played for RCB in 2016 as a replacement player.
As for Andrew Tye, he expressed his grief in an official statement saying that he regrets pulling out of the remainder of IPL 2021, but will cheer for his team. He was also disappointed that he could not make it into the T20 World Cup squad.
The 2021 installment of IPL came to a halt after multiple cases of COVID-19 came to light even after taking the necessary precautions. On May 4th, BCCI announced the postponement of IPL till 3rd week of September.
