Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with Indian Olympians on July 13, three days before the first group of athletes travel to Tokyo to participate in the Olympics. Due to the COVID19 situation, the interaction will actually take place. “Esteemed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will interact with athletes linked to #TokyoOlympics to inspire them before they participate in the next Olympic Games from July 23 to August 8, 2021,” published the government-citizen participation platform MyGovIndia on its Twitter page. The first group of Indian Olympians will travel to Tokyo on a chartered Air India flight.
“Reviewed preparations for facilitation of India’s contingent at @Tokyo2020. Discussed the logistical details, their vaccination status, the multi-disciplinary support being given,” Sri Narendra Modi tweeted.
More than 120 athletes are bound for the Games, even though the Indian Olympic Association is yet to officially divulge the strength of the contingent.
In view of the raging COVID-19 cases, the Tokyo Olympics will be held under a state of emergency in Japan without spectators from July 23 to August 8.
