MS Dhoni fans went all buzzing over social media ever since the announcement of the former captain joining team India in T20WC as a mentor has been made. On Wednesday, secretary Jay Shah made the announcement while revealing of the team for the upcoming T20WC. Virat Kohli will lead the side with Rohit Sharma alongside the team as the vice-captain.
After the revelation of the team list came the news of MS Dhoni mentoring the T20WC team. The news struck as lightning among the masses and stormed the social media.
MS Dhoni captained team India to the victory of 2007 T20WC, 2011 WC and the 2013 Champions Trophy. On 15th of August 2020, Dhoni announced his retirement over an Instagram post.
Later, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association life member Sanjeev Gupta, filed a series of conflict of interest complaints. He sent a letter to the apex council members that Dhoni’s appointment is a violation of the Conflict of Interest clause, under which one person cannot hold two posts.
Dhoni is currently with his team Chennai Super Kings, preparing for resuming IPL from September 19 in the UAE.
Players left out – Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. The names were once regularly appeared in the team list.
Another surprise inclusion in India’s T20WC squad is off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, his first international T20 call-up in four years.
India’s first game is against Pakistan on 24 October.
