Indian women have proved their proficiency and competence time and again, be it in the Tokyo Olympics 2021 or the great contribution with their research in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects. The Women’s National football team too, is in no mood to back down , despite the ongoing crippling pandemic. The squad has gathered in Jharkhand, Jamshedpur for the prelusive training . The AFC women’s Asian Cup will be hosted by India on January 22nd 2022.
Team Captain Ashalata Devi, acknowledged the hardships in arranging such camps in the midst of a global pandemic and expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the Jharkhand government and the Indian sports governing body – AIFF, who have come together to facilitate the arrangements for the Indian team.
The women have already travelled to several parts of the world in 2021 ; namely Indonesia, Nepal, Myanmar, Serbia, Uzbekistan and Belarus for SAFF Women’s Championship as well as Women’s Olympics.
Former head coach , Maymol Rocky had stepped down from her role , in July. The team will now play under the captaincy of Thomas Dennerby who holds over 30 years of expertise and experience in this field. Several teams have witnessed triumphs under his guidance , including Sweden’s Women’s National team achieving the third place in in FIFA world Cup , 2011 and the quarterfinal place in London Olympics , 2012.
In her statement , winger Sanju Yadav expressed her zeal and excitement for the massive task ahead. The 23-member team is energized and motivated to take the tournament head-on.
“We are like one big family. We can now shift focus to preparing for the Asian Cup, and I can guarantee that everyone is highly motivated. We are all very thankful to the Jharkhand Government for hosting us in Jamshedpur,” said midfielder Sangita Basfore. Thus, India and it’s players are looking forward to a momentous match ahead.
