Faf Du Plessis, who opens batting for CSK will be missing the upcoming matches for the team. Du Plessis got injured while playing in the Caribbean Premier League. The player suffered groin injury, although the extent of his injury remains unknown.
With only a few days to go for the IPL to resume, CSK find themselves in a difficult spot. The league is to resume from 19th of September in UAE. The first match is between CSK and MI.
The competition has been played out till half of its course. In the crucial time where teams are striving towards the qualifiers of this season, loss of a senior and in form opener questions the CSK camp and team management.
Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad formed a terrific opening pair for CSK in the first half of IPL this year. The duo shared two century stands (129 vs SRH and 115 vs KKR). Faf is presently the third-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2021. He has amassed 320 at an incredible average of 64.00. Meanwhile, Ruturaj has scored 196 at 28.00 so far.
It would not be an easy void to fill as du Plessis has been one of the key players of the CSK franchise. He scored 320 runs in seven matches with a best of 95* at an average of 64.00 and a strike rate of 145.45. He also smashed four fifties in those matches.
Uthappa is a possible option at the top with Gaikwad. Uthappa, who has scored more than 2000 runs as an opener in IPL, would be a like-for-like replacement.
