“Should I Say What Rohit Sharma Said?”: Ex England Star Gets Rishabh Pant Reminder In Commentary Box

Posted on March 8, 2024 By admin

The Indian cricket team continued their dominance on Day 2 of the 5th Test against England in Dharamsala, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill slamming a century each. The duo, in fact, brought up their tons in a non-traditional way, as far as Test cricket is concerned. The rate with which Rohit and Gill scored runs in the middle prompted former England star Owais Shah to ask ex-India cricketer Saba Karim in the commentary box, what was the reason behind Team India’s scoring rate.

Saba, in no mood to go easy on Shah, reminded the Englishman of the comment that was made by India captain Rohit Sharma in the pre-match press conference. When Rohit was asked about Ben Duckett‘s comment, suggesting England should get credit for Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s high strike rate, the India skipper had sent a ‘Rishabh Pant reminder’.

“There was a guy called Rishabh Pant in our team, probably Ben Duckett hasn’t seen him play,” Rohit had said in the press conference.

“Wahi jawab dun jo Rohit Sharma ne kahan tha ke aaplogon ne Rishabh Pant ko batting karte hue dekha nahi hai (should I respond the same way Rohit did, saying you guys have not seen Rishabh Pant bat)?”, Saba told Shah in the commentary box on Day 2.

There was plenty of talk around England’s ‘Bazball’ before the start of the series but Ben Stokes‘ men haven’t quite managed to display their positively attacking style of play in India. In the press conference on Wednesday, Rohit had even said that he doesn’t quite understand what ‘Bazball’ is all about.

“I honestly don’t know what [Bazball] means, whether it is to go and strike, whether it is to go and defend and wait for the loose ball,” Rohit said in the press conference.

“I have not seen any wild swinging from anyone, so I don’t know exactly what this term means.

“But, yeah, clearly they have played better cricket from what they played the last time they were here. And you got to give credit to two of their batters who got big hundreds there, and played well. They applied their method to get some success and they got it. But other than that I don’t know what it means,” Rohit had said.
