The West Bengal cabinet on Thursday endorsed the student credit card policy, which the Trinamool Congress had committed in its election proclamation, CM Mamata Banerjee said.
A student can get a concessional funding of up to Rs.10 lakh to follow higher studies with the support of a credit card.
“Today, the committee gave its approval to the student Credit Card policy. Anyone who has spent 10 years in West Bengal can access the boon of it. The loan will be accessible for undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral study in India or abroad,” Banerjee said to reporters.
She added that one individual is entitled for the policy till 40 years of age.
“Fifteen years will be given to a student to indemnify the loan after acquiring a profession,” the chief minister said.
The program will be initiated on June 30, she said.
