Gorakhpur: Cops stated on Monday (July 12) that a woman allegedly sold her three-month aged son here for 50,000 rupees and fabricated the story of his kidnapping to curtain the incident .
With the help of CCTV reel, the baby was discovered two hours after the incident. The PTI news agency quoted cops as stating that his mother and another woman to whom he was sold had been caught for interrogation.
On Sunday night, Salma Khatoon, a resident of the Ilahibagh area under the restrictions of the Gorakhnath police station, informed the police of the kidnapping of her son.
He told them that a woman wearing a red sari took her son near a wedding hall in the Rasoolpur area and fled in a van.
SP (City) Sonam Kumar and a police squad reached the site and started looking for the baby.
“As the mother kept changing her statement and telling the story of the kidnapping, the suspicion grew. When the police scanned the CCTV clip in the area, it was found that Khatoon had handed her son to another woman and rode in an e-rickshaw.
“With the help of the camera, the police started tracking another woman and found her location on Humayunpur Road. The baby was found,” said SP.
The police alleged that the father of the child was a ragpicker, and the woman sold her son in extreme poverty, adding that one of the parties claimed that it was an adoption case, while the other party claimed the baby in exchange for 50,000 rupees. on.
Police said they are investigating the matter and that it will be clarified once the investigation is complete. However, they said that action will be taken against the mother because she lied that the child was abducted.
