Alirajpur: A 20-year-old tribal girl was tied to a tree and pummeled with sticks by her relatives in Alirajpur in Madhya Pradesh for leaving her marital home and staying with her uncle, and footage of the event surfaced on social media, police said.
An official said the accused’ four brothers were captured on Friday (June 2) for the event which happened on June 28, according to news agency PTI.
The lady, known as Nanchi Ajnar, was suspended from the branch of a tree as her kin pummeled her with sticks even as she cried for mercy and help, several of them later dragging her on the ground, said Superintendent of Police Vijay Bhagwani.
“The event occurred on June 28 in Futtalab village under Bori police station areas, some 50 kilometres from the district headquarters. The woman had married recently, and her spouse soon left for Gujarat to work as a labourer. She shifted to her uncle’s home, which enraged her kin. They brought her home and then beat her,” he said.
The SP said her siblings, known as Kelsingh Ninama, Karam Ninama , Dinesh Ninama and Uday Ninama, have been captured under sections 294 (obscene words), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 355 (use of criminal force), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
