Elderly BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Sunday requested Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai not to enforce limitations on the celebration of Ganesha chathurthi or any other Hindu festival mentioning Covid-19. “I have told the CM that if he levies limitations (during Ganesha festival) then I am not going to ignore it. I am telling the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police available here that if you levy restrictions on Hindu festivals in Vijayapura then I will not keep quiet. You can shoot me to silence me,” Yatnal said jokingly at a program here.
He accused the government of allowing others to arrange events including 10,000 individuals and said when it comes to Ganesha festival, the authority enforces several limitations in the name of Covid-19 control. Yatnal asked the district authorities to enforce curbs individually if they really wish to restrain the spread of Covid-19 but not judiciously.
The MLA also asserted that the third wave of Covid-19 will not have any impact on the district outskirting Maharashtra as the immunization is maximum there and cases have declined substantially.
