Punjab is all set to go in Assembly elections early next year, meanwhile, political parties are making announcements and appealing promises to woo the voters of Punjab. Shiromani Akali Dal, AAP, the current ruling party in the state- Congress, and even BJP are making commitments in Punjab.
The incumbent CM of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi(Congress) has promised to slash power tariffs by ₹3 per unit. Moreover, he has promised to waiver off power bills of households having electricity connection up to 2kW. This move ,if implemented, will put a burden of ₹1200 crore(approx.) on the states coffers. Channi also further reduced VAT on petrol and diesel in Punjab after the Centre announced excise cuts.
Kejriwal’s AAP has promised 300 units of free electricity every month and cash assistance of ₹1000 per month to every women in Punjab above 18 years of age. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal took a swipe at Kejriwal suggesting that he cannot deliver on his promises. “Why he(Kejriwal) had not given an allowance of ₹1000 per month to all women in Delhi, and why 300 units of power had not been provided in Delhi to customers,” SAD leader said.
SAD has also made promises regarding free electricity units in residential areas. Furthermore, the party claims to give discount on diesel for tractors and loans and scholarships for students. On the other hand, BJP has promised to eradicate drugs and sand mafia from Punjab.
