Not less than 200 individuals were taken ill due to food poisoning after eating prasad at a religious event in Hojai district of Assam, officials said on Thursday. Some of the victims have been admitted to hospital in Hojai and Nagaon towns, they said.
More than 200 people, counting women and children, had consumed prasad’ (religious offering) and other eatables at the program in Ward 7 of Lanka town on Tuesday, the officials said. All of them have been grieved of fever and vomiting since Wednesday. “Some people went to Hojai and Nagaon for better treatment in private hospitals. As yet, no one has been seriously ill and we are administering the situation,” an official said.
