Posted on August 28, 2021September 21, 2021 By Piya Baidya

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch has apprehended an Interstate drug peddler arrested from Jaleswar Market in Balasore.

The name of the arrested drug peddler is Sk Raju, son of Sk Jamshed Ali of Aradabazar Masjidgali locality in Balasore district Headquarters Township.

He has been involved in the illegal drug business. Earlier the STF had nabbed three of his accomplices and had seized brown sugar weighing 2.402 kilograms valued at around Rs 2.5 crore from their possession on August 16.

During the interrogation, the three accused persons could not produce any valid authority in support of the possession of such contraband materials, for which the accused persons were arrested. They were identified as Mamtaz Khan of Jadheswarpur under Jaleswar police limits, Udayanath Rath of Arana village under Jagatsinghpur Town police limits in Jagatsinghpur and Pradeep Kumar Das of Tainkala, Bailisimouza under Cuttack Sadar police limits in Cuttack.

Balasore district bordering Bengal has become the gateway to drug peddling networks in the State. The source point of the brown sugar trade in the State owes its origin to Murshidabad.

Till the last reports came in, Sk Raju will be forwarded to the Court of District and Sessions Judge cum Spl. Judge, Balasore. Further efforts are underway to track the entire racket.
