India Meteorological Department (IMD) handed out an orange alert to nine districts of Kerala on Sunday. Kerala witnessed heavy rainfall up to 10 cm on 29th August.
The department foretold heavy to severe rainfall and issued an orange alert in 9 districts namely
Kottayam,
Ernakulam,
Idukki,
Thrissur,
Palakkad,
Malappuram,
Kozhikode,
Wayanad and
Kannur.
THE ORANGE ALERT is issued as a warning of extremely bad weather. This might cause disruption in traveling because of road and rail closures, and interruption of power supply.
It issued a yellow alert for 3 districts Pathanamthitta,
Alappuzha and
Kasaragod
YELLOW ALERT INDICATES severely bad weather for several days.
A green alert was given to 2 districts
Thiruvananthapuram and
Kollam.
GREEN ALERTS indicate that all is well.
An advisory was also circulated warning the coastal people and fishermen against fishing till August 30, as strong winds formed over the Arabian Sea.
“Strong wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over the South-west and West central Arabian sea. Fishermen are advised NOT TO venture into these sea areas,” IMD posted on their website.
