Mumbai: Four people have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape of a 20-year-old woman during a train journey. The incident took place on the Pushpak Express train from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai. Four others are yet to be arrested in the incident.
The woman was gang-raped on the sleeper coach of the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express on Friday night. The aggression was carried out by a group of eight people who boarded a train with weapons to rob the passengers. The attack took place when the train reached Igatpuri town in Maharashtra. The young woman was raped after robbing passengers. Passengers who reacted against the mob were attacked and injured with sharp weapons. Six passengers were injured.
When the train arrived at Kasara station, the passengers made a loud noise. With this, the railway police reached the spot and arrested two persons. Two others were arrested during a subsequent search. Items worth Rs 34,000 stolen were recovered from the suspects. Police said they are still searching for the four. The Railway Police has registered a case against the arrested persons on charges of rape and robbery.
“The young woman who was raped is 20 years old. Our female officer took her for a medical examination. The girl is still undergoing treatment. We are collecting all the evidence. Also, We are questioning the arrested accused. We are also examining the details of previous cases against them. Tweeted.
The case is being investigated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Crime Branch team. Khalid added that the accused stole Rs 96,390 in cash and other belongings from the train passengers, mostly mobile phones and assets worth Rs 34,200.
