A Bihar youth was supposedly gunned dead by unspecified criminals for requesting Rs 10 as boat fare in Samastipur province on Monday morning. According to police, the 17-year-old boy was murdered in front of his residence in Banbhaura village under Bithan police station. The demise has been marked as Sikal Yadav. “The location where the incident happened is submerged in water. The deceased used to row boats and aid people shuttle from one place to another,” said police.
The police in their initial investigation have learnt that the victim had a quarrel with a few men after he had urged them Rs 10 as fare for taking a ride on his boat. “A verbal argument had shaped into a violent fight on Sunday afternoon after a teenager had demanded fare. The villagers and other people commuting on his boat rescued the boy on Sunday,” added police.
The officer additionally said that on Monday morning when the teenager was standing in front of his house a few unmarked men opened fire on him. “The boy died at the incident site due to lethal bullet wounds,” said the officer.
The cops had gotten a call from a villager about the event a few minutes after the boy was gunned. “Our team could not reach the site as all roads to the village were submerged in water. We hired a boat to reach the incident location . We have sent the lash for postmortem to Samastipur Sadar Hospital,” said a senior police official posted at Bithan police station.
As per the victim’s relatives, he was earning livelihood by rowing a boat. “We don’t know with whom and why he fought. He is usually a very cool-headed guy,” said the victim’s cousin.
