Captain Amarinder Singh resigned on Saturday and left Punjab in a state of turmoil. He announced his decision in a press conference on Saturday (4:30 PM) after handing over his resignation to Punjab governor Banwarilal Purohit.
Captain Amarinder Singh said in the press conference that, “I was humiliated three times by the Congress leadership in the past two months” . “If there is any doubt over my capabilities, I feel humiliated” he added. According to his statement on Saturday, he called Sonia Gandhi informing her about his decision. “I am sorry Amarinder” Mrs. Gandhi said as per Singh’s statement.
Last two months were tough for Captain Amarinder Singh as he was deemed unfit to continue as the state’s CM by Congress MLA’s. According to them Amarinder Singh was highly inaccessible to his peers and collogues. The former CM moved his residence to a farmhouse outside the city within the outskirts. He stopped visiting the Punjab civil secretariat in Chandigarh. Furthermore, the party was concerned about his diminishing popularity in Punjab and were skeptical about the prospects of him steering the party to win the 2022 assembly elections.
“Navjot Singh Sidhu is an incompetent man”: Captain Amarinder Singh:
Amarinder Singh took a jibe at Mr. Sidhu and declared him unfit for the role of Punjab’s CM. “For the sake of my country, I’ll oppose his name for CM of Punjab. Its a matter of national security. Pakistan PM Imran Khan is his friend. Sidhu has a relation with Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa,” Singh said. “Navjot Singh Sidhu is an incompetent man. He is going to be a disaster. He couldn’t run one ministry I gave him,” Capt. Singh added. Navjot Singh Sidhu got the Tourism and Cultural Affairs ministry in August 2018.
“Navjot Singh Sidhu is not a traitor. If after now, Captain Amarider Singh calls him a traitor then I will open the whole book,” said Mohammad Mustafa, Principal Strategic Advisor to Mr. Sidhu.
