At least three people have subsided and several others were harmed after they fell into a 40-feet-deep well in Ganjbasoda area in Vidisha region of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday (July 15). The well collapsed as individuals had gathered around it and around 30 of them fell into the well. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, and administration are conducting the rescue operation.
In an interview with ANI, Minister of State Vishvas Sarang said: “19 people have been rescued and 3 bodies have been found. NDRF and SDRF are also here. The land here is easy to sink, and it happens over and over again. It’s hard to tell. The exact toll. Until the end of the operation.”
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed condolences on Twitter late at night for the loss of life in the accident, saying that rescue work is still ongoing.
When the incident occurred, a group of people gathered near the wall of the well to rescue a child who fell into the well. However, due to overcrowding, the pressure around the well increased, the well wall collapsed, and dozens of people fell into the well.
