Four of a wedding party were killed and 15 others were wounded when their stationary bus was struck by a truck on NH-28 falling under Panapur police outpost of Muzaffarpur area of Bihar early on Friday.
The mishap happened around 4am on the Muzaffarpur-Motihari highway. Muzaffarpur SSP Jayant Kant stated a bus carrying members of a wedding party was coming back from Motihari to Gaighat in Muzaffarpur. “The bus dismantled near an overbridge and some passengers deboarded to relieve themselves,” said the SSP, adding that the stranded bus was struck by a speeding truck coming from the same direction.
The driver and cleaner of the truck escaped death and another truck on the highway toppled while trying to avoid collision with the other two vehicles.
A doctor on his way back from Motihari, Dr Gaurav Verma, notified the authorities about the mishap. He stated he rushed five of the wounded passengers to Maa Janki Hospital, Bairiya.
The SSP said passengers were stuck inside the damaged bus and the police and villagers had a tough time extracting them from the vehicle.
