Police said on Monday that Commander Lashkare Taiba (LeT), responsible for assaulting and killing security forces and civilians, was one of two militants who died overnight in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. A police official said that after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Check Sadiq Khan area in southern Kashmir on Sunday.

The Chief of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said that one of the militants killed was identified as Ishfaq Dar, alias Abu Akram, senior commander of LeT. Singh said that
Dar has been active since 2017, responsible for a large number of terrorist crimes, including assaults and killings of police, security forces and civilians. He said that another militant has been identified as Majid Iqbal.
Senior police officers in Jammu and Kashmir said the night operation has concluded. An army officer said two AK rifles with eight magazines were found at the scene of the crossfire.
