Meerut Police, in cooperation with Army Intelligence, detained two men for misleading people by promising them job in the Indian army.
Police also recouped a pistol, army batches, army uniform and other materials which were used in the fraud.
The arrested have been recognised as Rahul and Bittu. While Rahul is originally from Muzaffarnagar, Bittu is a resident of Daurala, Meerut. The duo used to seduce young people by promising them jobs in the army and later cheated them. They also supplied fake appointment letters, fake ID cards to the victims.
FAKE ARMY JOB OFFER
The matter was highlighted when Manoj, a resident of Ghaziabad, filed a case against the accused in Daurala police station in Meerut.
In his grievance, he stated that he had gone to Faizabad in 2019 for army recruitment where he met the accused. Rahul guaranteed Manoj that he would get him and his (Manoj’s) brother a job in the army. Trusting him, Manoj paid Rs 16 lakh for the same.
Rahul also gave appointment letters and called Manoj to Pathankot for training. During this deception, one of Rahul’s aides, Bittu, dressed in an army uniform, used to talk to the victims on video calls to avoid suspicion.
In Pathankot, Manoj was even given a fake army uniform and fake ID card by the accused. He worked there for 4 months. It was when an Army Intelligence officer inquired about Manoj over suspicion, that the whole matter came to light. It was found that his I-card and appointment letter were fake.
Following this, a case was lodged and police detained both the accused.
