A delay in Swiggy order got three men into an argument with the restaurant staff and allegedly shot the owner, Sunil Agarwal in the head, the police said.
The incident took place in Greater Noida near Delhi where an owner of a restaurant was shot dead after a heated argument with the restaurant staff and Swiggy delivery agent. The reason for the argument was reported to be delay in getting an order ready. Three men have been arrested after the encounter.
The man killed, Sunil Agarwal was running the restaurant called Mitra inside a residential complex. Late on Tuesday, a delivery agent of an online platform called Swiggy reached the restaurant to collect an order of chicken biryani and poori sabzi. Three other men who were allegedly standing near the restaurant, approached the delivery agency asking about a prospective job, the police said.
Three men got into an argument with the restaurant staff over the delay in order of the Swiggy agent. The owner, after being shot, was rushed to the hospital with the help of restaurant employees and other staff members where he was declared dead.
“I was called (by the restaurant staff) to say their owner was shot. When I reached, he was still breathing. I first dialled 100 and then for an ambulance. But later, we took him to hospital in our vehicle,” said Rakesh Nagar, who lives near the restaurant.
Swiggy said in a statement, “What has been reported is very concerning. We have reached out to the concerned authorities to help verify the identity of the individual involved in this heinous incident and if such person was associated with Swiggy.”
The online platform said all its delivery partners are on-boarded for providing delivery services after a background verification which includes checking for any court cases or criminal antecedents.
