The first National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ministry in Puducherry will be appointed in on Sunday. Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Tamilisai Soundararajan will govern the oath of office to A Namassivayam and Sai Saravanan Kumar of the BJP and K Lakshminarayanan, C Dijeacoumar, Chandira Priyanga of the All India NR Congress (AINRC), officials mentioned.
The ceremony is planned to occur at 2.30 at Raj Nivas amidst tight security and pandemic limitations. The cabinet formation was detained due to various reasons by over 50 days after the AINRC-led NDA emerged triumphant in the assembly polls, the aftermath of which were announced on May 2.
CM N Rangasamy took the swear on May 7 after which he contracted Covid-19. While he was being nursed at a private Chennai hospital, the Union government appointed three BJP members as nominated MLAs. These nominated MLAs, who have voting privileges, were from BJP in the early Congress government too who were vital in numbers to plummet the previous government.
Subsequently, AINRC and BJP negotiated hard over cabinet posts and eventually, the saffron party resolved with the post of one speaker and two ministers. This drove to a skirmish within the BJP as abettors of all six elected MLA lobbied for the two cabinet berths.
The new cabinet acquired the President’s approval on Friday.
