Prime Minister Modi’s visit to The United States took an unexpected turn when Indian Americans protested outside the White House over his visit. The protesters hold Narendra Modi accountable for human rights violation in India. They also castigated Modi over new farm laws, ill-treatment of Muslims and other minorities, and the suppression of Kashmir.
PM’s agenda for US visit involves attending the Quad Summit and addressing the United Nations General Assembly. American President Joe Biden, Australian PM Scott Morrison and Japanese PM Yoshishide Suga will also be present at the summit. A bilateral discussion between Joe Biden and Modi will also take place.”Bilateral discussion between US and India will help reinforce and give momentum to the Quad discussion,” said a US official.
Protest at Lafayette Square:
Number of Indian Americans gathered at the location of the Bilateral meeting to display their feelings about the Modi government. Placards read “Save India from Fascism”. People wore Hiltler-Modi face masks in front of the White Hall. Activist accused Modi government of propagating hate and presiding over religious polarization.
The Quad Summit agenda:
The first ever in-person summit of the aforementioned leaders will take place in the United States. The agenda of the meet is to show all the four countries as a part of a strong democratic collation. The Quad meeting might also address the issues of Afghanistan, and China’s behavior in the Asia-Pacific. The global struggle against COVID-19 will also be addressed in the meet.
