Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla suggested the state government of Maharashtra and Kerala to consider imposing night curfews in high positivity areas. The Union Home Secy chaired a video conference on 26th August 2021. He reviewed the steps taken by the state governments to contain the spread of COVID-19 in their respective constituency.
Ministry of Home Affairs issued a statement saying “The Union Home Secretary reviewed the efforts being made by the state governments to contain the spread of infection and observed that more efforts would be required to arrest the increase in infections,” .
The state governments were advised to carry on with their vaccination drives. Any shortage in the supply will be met as soon as possible and to the extent possible.
Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Kerala and Maharashtra Police, NITI Aayog member Dr. VK Paul, NCDC Director, and the Secretary of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare attended the meeting.
