In the city of Indore, Tasleem Ali, a 25-year-old bangle seller was caught on camera getting beaten by a mob of men on Sunday. In certain reports it is said that the seller was attacked allegedly for having two IDs one being with a Hindu. Further developments in the case, Tasleem became the accused and was charged with an FIR under POCSO act for molesting a 13 year old.
The police have registered a case against Tasleem under sections 354, 354 (A), 420 (cheating), 467, 468 and 471 (using fake documents as real ones) of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of POCSO act after a minor filed a complaint about allegedly sexually harassing her and forging documents.
Ashutosh Bagri, Superintendent of Police, Indore, said, “The bangle seller had two Aadhar cards–bearing the name of Tasleem s/o Mohar Ali and Asleem s/o Mor Singh. He had also a half-burnt voter ID identifying him as the son of Mohan Singh.”
In the case of physically abusing the bangle seller, the police have registered a relevant section of robbery and assault against unknown persons. Police have so far arrested four persons for allegedly assaulting a bangle seller for apparently using a ‘fake’ name while selling his goods to women in Govind Nagar of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Tuesday. The arrested persons are identified as Rakesh Pawar (38), Vikas Malviya (27), Rajkumar Bhatnagar (37) and Vivek Vyas (35), Banganga police station in-charge Rajendra Soni said. The police are scanning video footage to identify and nab other persons involved in the attack.
After the video went viral, Bagri said, “In a viral video, a bangle seller in Banganga Police station area was thrashed and objectionable language was used against him. FIR registered, the accused have been being identified through the video. Stringent action will be taken against them.”
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said, “This shouldn’t be given a communal colour. If a man hides his name, caste and religion then bitterness comes in. Our daughters wear bangles and apply henna during Sawan. He had come as a bangle seller, there was confusion & truth came out after seeing his ID.”
The video of Tasleem being mob attacked went viral on social media platforms after which the police investigated the matter. At first it was looking a case of lynching but later development in the case suggests that the seller was attacked by the mob allegedly for harassing women on the pretext of selling bangles.
