In a disaster, as many as two pilots, including one from Odisha, died after a helicopter crashed at Raipur airport on Thursday night.
The demised pilots were Captain Gopal Krishna Panda from Odisha and Captain AP Srivastava.
Reportedly, the helicopter caught ablaze while they attempted to land the aircraft. The disaster occurred during a flying practice at the Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur.
Consequently, both the pilots died in the mishap. Notably, there were no passengers or crew members on board during the accident.
The actual reason behind the crash is yet to be established. An elaborate technical investigation shall be performed on behalf of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Chhattisgarh Government to resolve the actual reason behind the accident, added reports.
Chhattisgarh CM took to his Twitter handle to convey his grief and condolences and to pay his salute to the pilots. His tweet read, “Just got the dreadful news of the helicopter crash at Raipur airport. The dreadful incident destroyed the lives of both our pilots, Captain Panda and Captain Srivastava.. May God give strength to their bereaved families and peace to the departed souls.”
