Dr V K Paul, member of Niti Aayog (Health) announced on February 10, that government hopes to deploy India’s first homegrown Messenger RNA (mRNA)
COVID-19 vaccine, development by Pune-based Gennova Biopharmaceuticals, in the future.

He stated that the trials are currently underway to test the improved version’s safety and efficacy.
“India’s first homegrown Messenger RNA (mRNA) COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Pune-based Gennova Biopharmaceuticals is
currently under final clinical trials & we hope that we’ll be able to use it someday,” he said
“So we have a great candidate. They have also tweaked it for Omicron variant that will come forward.” Paul said.
Paul said who also heads the COVID-19 task force, during a press briefing by the Health Ministry on the pandemic status :
” The work on the original mRNA vaccine is in the advanced stage but the modified version is also being tested,”.

Despite the fact that the number of daily Covid infections in the country is falling, Paul said the overall
Covid-19 scenario appears to be positive but warns that not whole of the virus is understable yet.
He also noted that several states in the nation continue to record a high number of Covid-19 cases and advised against public indifference.
“Overall Covid-19 situation is very optimistic. However, some states including Kerala, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh are still reporting a large number of cases. We cannot lower our guard,” he said.
“We have learned a great deal about his pandemic and the virus, but the world doesn’t know
everything about this virus.The world should remain united to fight this virus and should continue to use the
tools that are at our disposal,” he added.
In the previous 24 hours, India has reported 67,000 new Covid-19 cases across the country.
In addition, 1,241 people died as a result of the virulent virus.
