West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday asserted that the snooping on Supreme Court judges, journalists and political leaders among others using the Pegasus spyware, news of which erupted earlier this week, was “worse than the Watergate scandal” which erupted in the US during the Nixon presidency. Banerjee likened the scandal which assertedly involved using a spyware created by a Israeli firm to vitiate the mobile phones of hundreds of Indians in a bid to spy on them to the imposition of a “super-emergency in the country”. The chief minister demanded that all impartial institutions have been politicised by the BJP-led Government.”Pegasus is worse than the Watergate scandal; it is a super emergency,” Banerjee revealed to a press conference at the state secretariat here.
” They (BJP Leadership) do not trust their own officers and ministers, ” she said : “I’ve heard that they have tapped the phone of some RSS people.” The minister has recently won the high-voltage elections to elect the state parliament after a campaign of bitter flavor against Prime Minister Narendra.
