The ‘Onam Spike’ hit 123 health workers, 138 civilians and 29,608 infected through direct contact. For 1,576 cases, the source of infection was not clear.
4,70,860 people under observation in various districts. 4,44,278 are under home quarantine or in in quarantine institutions.
The spike was apprehended as it generally happens after a festivity, Onam being one of the main celebrations. The state government had imposed restrictions and barred people from celebrating Onam.
Shops and other places were allowed to run normally. This is the reason, the state has seen a sudden explosion in the number of cases.
