Haryana’s Agriculture Minister JP Dalal said on Tuesday that the farmers protest in the state was politically motivated. He also claimed that the protests were aimed at creating disturbance in Haryana.
Reacting to Punjab’s CM Amarinder Singh’s plea to farmers, JP Dalal said, “The way they sent people to agitate in Haryana, the same is being done to them in Punjab by some Congress-opposing parties,”.
On Monday, September 13, Capt. Amarinder Singh appealed to the representatives of farm unions to stop protesting in Punjab. He requested them to go Delhi or Haryana instead, where farmers from other states are protesting. “Its your own Punjab, please don’t spoil things here. Let those protesting in Delhi and Haryana keep doing that,” Singh said in his plea to the farmers. He also reminded them that the Punjab government has always supported them in their agitation.
Slamming Capt. Amarinder Singh for his statement/plea, JP Dalal said, “I did not expect this from Captain Amarinder Singh who is a soldier himself. The statement made by him are not in the country’s interest,”. The minister also said that the ongoing agitation is funded by Congress party for their own interests.
JP Dalal also claimed that the protest has hampered the economy of Delhi and Haryana. “Bahadurgarh’s shoes industry has been badly affected because of this and many others have collapsed,” he said.
Causes and impacts of Farmers Protest:
The movement started last year when the Central government passed 3 new farm laws on September 2020. Farmers and their representatives claim that the laws are not in their favor, instead they are in the interest of some of the corporate giants of India. Farmer unions have demanded the laws be repealed as soon as possible. They have also warned the government that the movement will continue until the laws are scrapped. A series of talks and debates between the union leaders and officials from the government have taken place since last year. However, both the parties have failed to reach a mutual agreement.
Impact: These agitations and protests have had an adverse effect on the economy of the country. Industries depending on agriculture have either collapsed or incurred huge losses.
