The 13th round of military talks between India and China begins today as defence officials of both countries meet at Moldo, which is on the Chinese side. The talks are expected to take forward the disengagement process in remaining friction points along the LAC.
Earlier this month, Indian and Chinese soldiers engaged in a tense standoff in Arunachal Pradesh across the Line of Actual Control(LAC). The 13th round of talks is organized to focus on an agreement for the next phase of disengagement. This will include overall de-escalation in eastern Ladakh and disengagement of troops from Hot Springs.
China trespassing into Indian territory:
- On August 30, around 100 Chinese soldiers transgressed into Indian territory through the border point at Barahoti ridge, Uttarakhand.
2. Earlier this year, satellite images of a village built by Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh came to surface. The village consisted of 101 homes. The village, located on the banks of River Tsari Chu, lies in the Upper Subansiri district. The construction by Chinese army is approximately 4.5 kms inside the Indian territory.
The Galwan valley incident:
The evening of June 15 2020 marked a deadly clash between the troops of India and China. Close to twenty Indian soldiers lost their lives in the face-off with the People’s Liberation Army of China. This unfortunate event pushed the bilateral relations between India and China to their all time low.
The Galwan valley incident also marked the first deadly conflict between the troops of both countries in 45 years.(Galwan valley is located in eastern Ladakh)
