The Body of a 32-year-old student was discovered hanging inside a hostel room at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), today morning. Police doubt it to be a case of suicide, but no suicide note has been detected so far. The student, recognised as Ashwin Anurag Shukla, belonged to the 2017 batch of cinematography course and originated from Goa’s Salvador do Mundo. Police have initiated an inquiry into the case, describing it as “likely suicide”.
The police were informed by the security officers of FTII at 9 am on Friday after they received details that a hostel room, locked from the inside, was not being opened after repeated requests.
“The student, recognised as Ashwin Anurag Shukla, was found dead in his hostel room this morning. The lash was in a decomposed state,” Murlidhar Karpe, senior inspector of Deccan Gymkhana police station, told news agency PTI.
Meanwhile, the cadaver has been evacuated out of the institute for the post-mortem procedure.
