Kerala Chief Minister Pinarati Vijayan flagged off operation Samudra bus service which aims at providing free of charge transportation to women fish vendors. The bus service started on 28th of August 2021, Saturday. KSRTC, Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, will ferry women fish vendors from the coast to city markets for free.
“The bus has all modern facilities. The state will incur Rs. 24 lakh per yearin operating these buses and state government has made all necessary arrangements.” said transport minister Antony Raju. Samudra bus service will ease off the expenses incurred by an average fisher women. According to Kerala’s transport minister, they spend around 400-500 Rs. on bus service daily which accounts for haf their income.
The bus services will start from 5 AM in the morning till 10 PM in the night. At present, there are only three routes but the state government is planning to expend it to other areas of Kerala.
