A meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority, driven by LG Anil Baijal, stated concern over people travelling in large numbers to tourist spots and infringing Covid related protocols. Niti Aayog’s Dr VK Paul, ICMR’s Dr Balram Bhargava and AIIMS director Randeep Guleria were among the attendees.
The excess gathering at tourist destinations were taken note of after pictures and videos materialized on social media of people breaching Covid-19 norms at Mussoorie’s Kempty and traffic jams on the way to famous hill stations like Manali.
The committee also talked at length concerns emerging of new variants like Delta plus and Lambda variants, and steps like vaccination, genome sequencing, probing, tracking and surveillance were recommended as the most effective measures to attenuate their spread.
“It was sensed that the protection against the virus could not be depressed and grave concerns were expressed over the flouting of Covid appropriate behaviour and negligence. To deal with any future rise or wave, an ICU bed capacity of 12,000, adequate oxygen, drugs and ambulances was emphasized,” experts present in the meeting said.
