Danish Siddiqui, a Pulitzer Prize winner Indian photojournalist, has been murdered in Afghanistan while covering fighting between Afghan army and the Taliban. “Deeply disheartened by the sad news of the killing of a friend, Danish Siddiqui in Kandahar last night (July 15). The Indian Journalist and triumph of the Pulitzer Prize was embedded with Afghan security forces,” Afghanistan’s Ambassador to India Farid Mamundzay tweeted on Friday. “I met him 2 weeks ago before his departure to Kabul. Sympathies to his family & Reuters,” Mamundzay.
According to Tolo News, sources said that Siddiqui, in his 40s, was killed in clashes in the Spin Boldak area of Kandahar. The Indian journalist has been covering the situation in Kandahar for the past few days.
Siddiqui was based in Mumbai. He won the Pulitzer Award as part of the photographic shooting staff of Reuter’s news organization. Danish graduated from Jamia Millia Islamia. He acquired a mass communication title from the Massive Communications Research Center in Jamia in 2007. He started his career as a television news correspondent, changed to photojournalism, and joined Reuters as an intern in 2010.
This is because the Taliban occupied Spin Boldak in Kandahar this week. In recent days, Kandahar, especially Spinboldak, has been fighting fiercely.
