An Investigative body, set up by Union Home Ministry has warned the officials, against the third wave of Covid-19 disease. It has clearly stated that another outbreak is materializing; and this disease may reach its peak around the month of October. Children and pre-pubescents are as much in peril as the adults. Dr Renu Swarup, the Secretary, of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology , has spoken on the same lines and conveyed her apprehension for the same. She stated that the virus’ nature is highly erratic and it has tendencies to mutate, over which we have no control whatsoever. Thus, the transmission is rapid. What is in our control, though, is human behaviour. She advised the citizens of India to maintain the required protocols ¸that is, to wear masks, follow social distancing and the likes.
PRESENT SITUATION OF COVID-19 IN INDIA: The delta variant which is one of the main threats of the third wave, is a highly mutable strain, which has been keeping up its evolution since it’s emergence. Innumerable scientists have warned us about the incoming third wave and the lasting effects it can have on the economy and health infrastructure of India. Dr. Swarup dispelled the commoners’ fear by saying that the third wave is not inevitable. It can be forestalled by following Covid appropriate behavior, which will in turn, break the chain of transference from one infected person to another. There is clearly the human behaviour will overtake the virus behaviour, and I think if we allow it to be controlled, no way is the third going to happen,” Dr Swarup reassured.
STATUS OF THE VACCINATION DRIVE IN INDIA: Presently, over 58 crore Indians have been jabbed. The government has also sanctioned Zydus Cadila’s indigenous Covid vaccine ZyCov-D , to be administered to children above the age of 12 and adults. This will safeguard a section of children against the virus. With easing of the strict lockdown which had been imposed on several parts of the country, the virus has seen a gradual boom. Only stern and uncompromising directives can forestall the harsh ill-effects, that the third surge is apprehended to bring.
