Authorities said the search for the missing pilot of the military helicopter that crashed into the Ranjit Sagar Dam lake in Kathu, Jammu and Kashmir resumed on Wednesday. The accident happened Tuesday morning. Rescue operations were suspended for the night.
The Dam is about 30 kilometers from Pathankot, Punjab. The lake where the helicopter crashed is shared by the Punjab and JK governments. Officials said Navy deep-sea divers were also part of the operation.
The depth of the crash site has been measured more than 200 feet. Kathua Chief Superintendent (SSP) R C Kotwal said that after mobilizing troops and ships to conduct a search operation, some helicopters were spotted on Tuesday.
Witnesses claimed that the helicopter was flying over the lake and suddenly fell into the water. During a search operation on Tuesday, a helmet, two oversized bags, a shoe, Icards and some parts of the helicopter were found.
