The proposed meetings are giving rise to speculations about the Punjab Congress leader joining BJP. Singh might secure a place in PM Modi’s council of ministers if the former agrees to join the party. BJP and NDA leaders Anil Vij and Ramdas Athawale had once invited the former CM to join hands with BJP in the past. “Not only, Amarinder Singh, but all nationalist forces in Punjab should join hands to defeat the gameplan of Congress,” siad Vij.
Amarinder Singh’s resignation and his feelings about Navjot Singh Sidhu being the next CM:
Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the CM post after the Congress leadership put a question mark on his abilities. After being “humiliated” by Congress party members, Singh announced his official resignation from the party in a press conference. He also said that he had informed party president Sonia Gandhi about his decision.
Captain Amarinder Singh declared Sidhu “incompetent” and “anti-national” when asked if he would endorse Sidhu as his successor. He publicly accused Navjot Singh Sidhu of having friendly realtions with former cricketer and current PM of Pakistan, Imran Khan. He also said that Navjot Singh Sidhu would pose security threats to the country if appointed as the CM of Punjab.
