A former minister in the Bihar government, Mukesh Sahani leads the Vikassheel Insaan Party, which has a strong support base in the OBC community. VIP is currently allied with the RJD and the Congress in the INDIA Opposition bloc.

Senior police officer Manish Chandra Chaudhary told IANS that preliminary probe indicates that someone entered the Sahanis’ home with a theft plan and killed Jitan Sahani when he resisted.

Senior officer Reddy has said a three-member Special Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the shocking crime.

Main opposition RJD has strongly criticised the Nitish Kumar government over Jitan Sahani’s murder at his home. The incident, RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav said, has shocked the state. “What is happening in Bihar? Not a day goes by without news of a murder. A mindless government is in power. The system has collapsed,” he said. “May God grant Mukesh Sahani strength to bear this grief.”

Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary termed the incident “unfortunate”. “I want to assure on the behalf of the state government that strict action would be taken. Anyone guilty would be put behind bars. The government stands firmly with Mukesh Sahani ji’s family,” he said.

Neeraj Kumar of the ruling JDU told IANS that senior police officers are at the crime scene and a probe is underway. “The culprits won’t be spared. Efforts are underway to locate them and bring them to justice.”

Union Minister and LJP (Ramvilas) leader Chirag Paswan condemned Jitan Sahani’s murder. “The criminals will be identified at the earliest and action will be taken. My condolences for Mukesh Sahani ji and his family,” he said.
