Kulti: A 21-year-old man expired in police custody in Bengal’s Paschim Bardhaman region on Tuesday (July 6) morning, evoking tension in the area, as locals threw stones at the outpost, where he was held, and torched several vehicles parked outside, a senior officer said. A grief was filed by the father of the deceased, following which the two police officers, who had captured him on Monday night for his participation in a theft case were discontinued, he said.
“The health conditions of the culprits deteriorated in prison. He was confirmed dead when taken to a nearby hospital,” the senior police officer said. A big police squad, which was hurried to the Barakar area to control the situation during the day, used teargas to scatter the mob that attacked the outpost. “Nobody was harmed in the melee. We have seized two police officers who were deai g the case. The situation is stable at the moment,” the officer added.
Following progress, massive savagery evoked at Kulti in Asansol. Tensions erupted over the supposed custodial death of the culprits, who was detained in association with a stealing case. According to reports, he died a few hours after he was taken into police custody.
Public fury evolved as they strike the police station and bombard stones. Protesters set fire to several police vehicles and sabotaged a few others parked in the area. The dead belonged to a minority community, said the report.
A huge arrangement of forces has been posted in the area to screen the tense situation.
