The UN-appointed human rights expert has spoken against the execution of Iranian-Kurdish prisoner. According to the expert, The prisoner has not received a fair trail and thus, his death sentence must be repealed.
Heidar Ghorbani was arrested for bieng associated with the alleged killing of three men affiliated to Basij, which is one of the five forces in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The paramilitary is known for its large size and recruits a lot of young Iranians.
Ghorbani’s family was not informed regarding his arrest until three months. It is also believed that his formal confession was a result of months of torture and ill-treatment.
Iran’s Supreme court sentenced the accused to death in August 2020 and rejected all of Ghorbani’s plea for judicial review. His execution may be carried out at an time.
