Tolo news reporter severely beaten by the Taliban; US Embassy instructs it’s citizens to steer clear of  Kabul’s Airport

Posted on August 26, 2021August 26, 2021 By Anandarupa De

A young Tolo news reporter, named Ziar Yaad Khan and his cameraperson were brutalized by the Talibans, at Kabul. Tolo news is the first independent news agency of the country. Earlier, his death was speculated and reported. Khan, later clarified in a tweet that he was alive and safe. He was working on creating a report on poverty and unemployment in the country.

“I was beaten by the Taliban in Kabul’s New City while reporting. Cameras, technical equipment and my personal mobile phone have also been hijacked. Some people have spread the news of my death which is false. The Taliban got out of an armored Land Cruiser and hit me at gunpoint,” the journalist clarified in his tweet.

The American Embassy issued a warning to its citizens, stranded in the war-stricken country. It instructed the people to steer clear of The Hamid Karzai International Airport. This is because of the imminent security threats and speculations on “planned attacks”. This is the only airport in the country, and several people are being spotted flocking the place, in hopes of being rescued by armed militia. Thousands of people of Afghan origin, are lingering around the airport, in their last attempts to flee the country. USA had previously declared 31st August 2021 as it’s last date for evacuation.

This alert comes just after a day Joe Biden delivered his speech about the ominous, impending doom about the ISIS threat.

  • Darma, Chaudas and Vyas valleys lie in Dharchula town, touching the China and Nepal boundary. 40 villages consisting of thousands of residents are now dependent on the government for ration in these three valleys. But other daily essential commodities have become a rarity. The crisis has led to the people of these three valleys purchasing LPG cylinders for Rs 2500-3000. Villagers complained, due to road blocked, market goers facing difficulty in purchasing daily essentials like oil, salt, pulses, toothpaste etc,. The villagers urged the administration to supply these items through choppers. Darma roads have been blocked since June 20 after heavy rains and landslides, the blockade stretched to Chaudas and Vyas valleys in July. The government is seeking after food security through their ration godowns. Per the district authority, there are four ration repositories in Dugtu, Pangu, Sirdang and Gunji from where food grains are being distributed. However, the limited ration will sustain the villagers of these three valleys only for the next two months. locals highlighted that they do get ration from the government, it only contains rice and wheat, and they still grapple for other essential goods. The small outlets in the villages have also reportedly run out of goods. Government agencies like Border Roads Organisation, Public Works Department and Central Public Works Department are working continuously to reinstate road connectivity. The landslides have harmed enormously in the three valleys and the villagers believe chances are less of things to revive to normal.
