Bhavinaben Hasmukhbhai Patel, India’s para table tennis player achieved silver at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium — Table 6 on Sunday.She lost the gold medal to China’s Zhou Ying 3-0 in the women’s singles – Class 4.
Zhou Ying crushed Bhavina in straight sets by 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 11-6) in just 19 minutes. Bhavina became the first silver medal winner for India in this edition of the Games.
They played very competitively as both players excelled to stay. But soon the Chinese with her quick forehand upset Bhavina to conclude the set 11-7.
Zhou played excellently in the second set. She proceeded well and bagged the set by 11-5 as Bhavina failed to provide any challenge.
Following the third set, Bhavina tried to gain some ground against Zhou. With the score at 5-5, Zhou again managed to gather the next 6 points very easily as the Indian collected just one.
In spite of the loss in the final, Bhavina formed history by becoming the first Indian to enter the finals of the Paralympic Games table tennis match.
Meanwhile, Zhou Ying is presently the most decorated para-paddlers in China. She is a 6 time Paralympic gold medalist. She bagged two medals in each of the singles and team events during the 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Missions and now one in Tokyo 2020. She failed on the podium in singles at the 2016 Rio games.
Zhou is also a 6-time World Championship medalist. She achieved 1 silver and 5 gold medals. She is the winner of 14 Asian Championship medals and 5 Asian Games gold medals.
