On 24th August, Tuesday, Taliban gave an ultimatum to the US President who was looking to extend the evacuation process. Joe Biden recently hinted that he might elongate the evacuation mission of his troops from Afghanistan. This aggravated Taliban leaders who have finally resorted to giving a deadline to the President, encouraging him to pace the mission up.
“The US should leave the country by August 31st” said Taliban’s spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid during a press conference. His remark suggests that the Taliban leaders are keen to get US forces out of their country. The completion of this evacuation will get them one step closer to establish full control over Afghanistan once again.
The US military officials have been in Afghanistan for the past 20 years and their sudden evacuation is considered as a huge financial and moral loss for the United States. According to Biden, this is the most difficult and the largest airlift in the history. He seeks to get all the American troops out of war-torn Afghanistan as soon as possible.
After the unchallenging assumption of power and zero retaliation from Afghan leaders, this airlift will mark another victory for Taliban.
