Hurricane has made landfall near Port Fourchon, Louisiana. It is classified as a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 150 mph said the National Hurricane Center.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards opined that Hurricane Ida is one of the most powerful storms to make landfall in Louisiana in modern times.
It constantly intensified right up until it’s landfall.
The governor requested the residents to remain indoors to ensure their safety.
“Once the storm has passed, you need to be prepared to shelter in place for the first 72 hours,” Edwards said. “We have every possible resource ready to go, to help you. We’ll get there sooner than 72 hours if at all possible, in order to rescue people across the state of Louisiana.”
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has sent essential amenities to Louisiana as the storm approached-
200 ambulances
139,000 tarps
3.5 million meals packs
2.5 million liters of water.
Videos of dilapidated fire stations surfaced showcasing the damage that this powerful storm has caused.
