Indo China border issue: mutually acceptable solution

Posted on July 15, 2021September 18, 2021 By Subrata Paul

Indo China border issue: China is looking for a mutually accepted solution. As India firmly stated to China that the extension of the existing situation in eastern Ladakh has clearly had a “negative impact” on bilateral relations, Beijing said on Thursday that it is ready to seek a “mutually acceptable solution” to solve the problem. Request to negotiate “emergency handling”.

During an hour-long face-to-face meeting held during the secret SCO meeting in Dushanbe on Wednesday, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also told his Chinese counterpart and State Councilor Wang Yi that there was some information about the status quo along the Royal Line of Control (LAC): The changes in India are “unacceptable” and the overall relationship can only develop after peace and quiet in eastern Ladakh is fully restored.

After a series of military and diplomatic negotiations settled the withdrawal of troops and weapons from the Pangong Lake area in February, the two armies met in the capital of Tajikistan when the separation process at the remaining friction point in eastern Ladakh was at a deadlock. Confrontation since last May.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on the meeting between Wang Yi and Jashankar on its website on Thursday that India-China relations are still at a “trough” and the border situation has “generally eased” after the withdrawal. Galvan Valley and Pangong Lake.

However, India-China relations are still at a “trough” and are not in the interests of “anyone,” Wang said.

While reiterating that China has repeatedly stated its irresponsible position on the China-Indian border situation, Wang said that “China is willing to negotiate with India to find a solution acceptable to both sides for urgently needed issues.”

Although China withdrew its troops from the Galvan and Pangong Tso, other sticking points such as hot springs, Gogla and Depsang in eastern Ladakh have yet to complete the disengagement.

In meeting with Wang, Jaishankar firmly stated that the extent of the current situation in eastern Ladakh has clearly had a “negative” impact on bilateral relations, and said that since the withdrawal from Pangong Lake, China has failed to achieve no progress. Conditions created to solve the remaining problems.

Jaishankar told Wang that any unilateral change to the status quo of the Royal Line of Control (LAC) would be “unacceptable” for India, and that general relations can only develop after peace and tranquility in eastern Ladakh are fully restored, according to a statement released. . . MEA talks about WangJaishankar.

Wang Yi agreed to “discuss a mutually acceptable solution on matters that need to be dealt with urgently.” At the same time, he stated that the two sides should put the border issue in an appropriate position in their bilateral relations, and create favorable conditions for the settlement of disputes by expanding positive negotiations. Bilateral cooperation.

“It is necessary to consolidate the results of the disengagement, strictly abide by the agreement and consensus between the two parties, avoid unilateral actions in disputed sensitive areas, and avoid repeating the same mistakes due to misunderstanding and misjudgment.” He added. The statement of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted Wang as saying.

“We must focus on the long-term and shift from emergency management to normal border control mechanisms to prevent border incidents from causing unnecessary interference to bilateral relations,” he said.

Wang said that the essence of China-India relations is how two important developing neighboring countries view each other, how to live in harmony, and how to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

“China’s strategic judgment on China-Indian relations has not changed, and China-Indian relations should “not be a threat to the other side, but an opportunity for the other side to develop.” The two countries are partners, not rivals, not enemies. “He said. Emphasize.
“The principle of China-India relations should remain mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, and mutual respect for the fundamental interests of each. one”.

The China-India trade model should continue to be based on cooperation, mutual benefit and complementarity, healthy competition and avoidance of confrontation.

Today, China and India assume greater responsibilities for the peace and prosperity of their respective regions and the world. We must pay more attention to common strategic interests to better benefit the two peoples.

Recalling their last meeting in Moscow in September 2020, Jasihankar also emphasized the need to implement the agreement reached at that time and complete the disengagement, to resolve the remaining issues throughout LAC in eastern Ladakh as soon as possible.

According to military officials, there are currently approximately 50,000 to 60,000 soldiers on both sides throughout the sensitive area of LAC.
