Tehran, August 31- Germany donated a sum of USD 2.3 million to aid Afghan and Iraqi refugees in Iran said the World Food Program on Tuesday.
“The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) welcomes a generous Euro 2 million [USD 2.3 million] contribution from the Federal Republic of Germany in support of its longstanding assistance program to vulnerable Afghan and Iraqi refugees in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” a press release recorded .
The World Food Program believes that the atrocities that the Afghanis have faced have the potential to create a movement of its own.
The UN agency said the donations will help the new evacuees in Iran.
It will also help the government provide cash allowance to atleast 31,000 refugees.Iran hosts one of the the largest number of Afghan and Iraqi refugees – 780,000 and 20,000 respectively . The refugees are in extreme need of food assistance, according WFP.
Most of the victims are estimated to be women and children.
