Is Al-Qaeda leader Al-Zawahiri alive?

Posted on September 12, 2021September 12, 2021 By Subrata Paul

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri was shown in a 60 minute long video after 20 years of 9/11. Al-Zawahiri was presumed to be dead but his appearance in the said video suggests otherwise. The rumors of his death surfaced on December last year.

The Egyptian terror-monger succeeded Osama Bin Laden as the head of jihadist group Al-Qaeda. In the hour long video released by Al-Qaeda, Ayman Al-Zawahiri spoke about his plans on raiding a Russian military base in Syria.

US based SITE Intelligence group tracks the online activity of jihadist groups like Al-Qaeda reported that Zawahiri spoke on a number of issues, including the power assumption by Taliban in Afghanistan.

Rita Katz, the Director of SITE about the same. The tweet read, “Amid rumors of his death, Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri was shown in a new 60 minute video, this time offering some evidence that he is not dead, particularly, reference to events after December when rumors of his death surfaced,”.

Al-Qaeda is the terrorist/jihadist group that is held responsible for the 9/11 attack. Apart from that, the the said jihadist group has been held directly, or indirectly accountable for many other attacks.

As per Katz tweet, Taliban’s victory in Afghanistan is also Al-Qaeda’s victory. Major media houses, and intellects all around the world have been vocal about the correlation between Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

Brief history of Ayman Al-Zawahiri:

Ayman Al-Zawahiri has led Al-Qaeda since the death of Osama Bin Laden. The latter was killed by SEAL team six consisting of well trained US troops. The rumors of Ayman’s death surfaced in December 2020. The new video released on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 provided strong evidence that he is still alive. He is held responsible for militant activities in countries like Egypt, Pakistan, Sudan, and the US.
