Former England cricket team spinner Graeme Swann praised the Indian batters for their brilliant performance on Day 2 of the fifth Test match in Dharamsala with a subtle dig at the Ben Stokes-led side. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma slammed centuries to provide the perfect foundation for Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal to pile more misery on the visitors. On commentary, Swann said that Indian batters played their own brand of ‘Bazball’ and they did “very very well” during the five-match Test series.
“India have come out and are playing England at their own ‘Bazball’ game – and they’re doing very, very well,” Swann said while commentating during Day 2 of the Test match.
Ravichandran Ashwin took a five-wicket haul in his landmark 100th Test as India hammered England by an innings and 64 runs in the fifth match to seal the series 4-1 on Saturday.
England’s James Anderson reached 700 Test wickets early in the day to be just the third bowler to achieve the feat, but the tourists were never in the game.
Off-spinner Ashwin returned figures of 5-77 to help bowl out England for 195 inside three days at the picturesque Dharamsala stadium, overlooked by snowcapped Himalayan mountains, after India posted a mammoth 477.
He rocked England’s top and middle-order after the tourists began their innings 259 runs behind and lost five wickets for 103 runs by lunch.
After the match, Ashwin said he was “very happy” with his performance.
“Win the Test and take wickets, what more can a bowler ask for?” he added.
